There are 5 basic wedding dress styles: A-line, ball gown, empire, sheath or column, and mermaid. When choosing the style of wedding dress, keep in mind the kind of wedding you're having, your personality, body type and how a particular style of wedding dress makes you feel in general.
The A-line wedding gown, often referred to as a "princess dress," has a fitted bodice and flares at the waist. This beautiful wedding gown is perhaps the most popular among brides. The second style is the ball gown, which also has a fitted bodice and a full skirt (think fairy tale gowns). The third style is the empire wedding dress. This beautiful wedding gown has a waist that starts under the bust line and a long flowing skirt. The empire wedding dress is a classic dress that exudes elegance. The sheath or column dress is a more modern style. It is one long straight wedding dress. This particular beautiful wedding gown is ideal for smaller brides as the style (column) gives off the appearance that they are taller. The fifth style is the mermaid wedding dress, a fitted wedding dress from the bodice down to the knees, where the skirt then flares out.
